The aim of the work is to create pictorial spaces which toy with the viewer’s impulse to believe in them. These fictional compositions hold a tension between reality and fantasy.
The paintings begin with heavily worked abstract grounds, which provide opportunity to re-contextualize a variety of imagery that I have found or photographed.
The work purposely keeps the viewer at a distance from reality yet is strangely evocative of places we sense we might know.
