Annmarie Twomey

The Atlantic washed shores of our island nation has witnessed over the passing centuries many storms both cultural, political and natural.

The word vessel meaning carrier or objects that hold, represents my theme of research through the monastic sites, lichen covered burial grounds and secretive places that capture my attention as time is eroding their stories.

These places of both ancient and 20th century Ireland inspire in me a world of imagery both spiritual and ghostly, thus bringing together a collection of work that is reflecting this.

Thesis: The freedom and range of modern art has increased our understanding and appreciation of the arts of the past.  The confrontation of early Irish works and modern works will further illuminate and augment the appreciation of the art that commemorates the Great Famine of 1845 to 1851.
